TroubleShooting Guide
Quick Fixes to Uncommon Issues
CAUSE: Dirty Filter. Filter is full and no longer catching finer particles.
SOLUTION: Clean filter media. It is recommended that all pools use 3-Stage Activated Glass Filters because of the superior filtration performance and ease of maintenance.
CAUSE: De-Calcification. Years of hard water build up inside the plumbing is being dissolved by ZeroChlor's electronic oxidation process.
SOLUTION: De-calcification will stop after a few weeks.
CAUSE: After the Big Party. Extra swimmers mean extra pollutants in the water.
SOLUTION: Increase the run time of the Pump, Filter, and ZeroChlor Pool System. Test water for proper calcium hardness.
CAUSE: Suspended Micro-Particles
SOLUTION: Dirty Filter or Filter not rated to capture micro-particles. Add flocculant. Consider upgrading to a 3-Stage Activated Glass Filter.
CAUSE: Improper pH, Hardness, Copper, or Phosphate parameters.
SOLUTION: Test water and adjust water parameters to recommended levels. Improper parameters are the cause of 95% of algae growth in pools. Use non-chlorine shock if desired to speed up the process of clearing the pool.
CAUSE: HET-UV Bulbs are no longer working.
SOLUTION: Order and replace HET-UV bulbs from zerochlorpoolsystems.com.

This is usually iron in the water which is being oxidized and settling to the bottom of the pool. This usually occurs on pools not equipped with a main drain because the iron is not being filtered out by the filter or if the pool has a main drain the filter may not have a low enough micron rating to filter out the dust. The dust can be vacuumed to waste or a robot equipped with a low micron filter can be used to clear the pool bottom.
This is usually mold growing underneath the pool liner which has become visible through the liner. There is no easy solution to this problem because the mold is growing under the liner and therefore cannot be accessed for treatment without removing the liner. Mold under a pool liner is rare but does occur. At this time our only suggestion is to wait until the time comes to replace the pool liner and when the old liner is removed then treat the entire pool bottom with a mold killing agent.
This is almost always caused by microscopic pollutants in the water. If there was a recent event (such as a pool party) which introduced a higher amount of swimmers than usual then your filter should bring the water back to its original sparkle within a day or two. Microscopic pollutants are also often introduced into pool water by events such as heavy rain or storms.
If there was no recent event and this is an ongoing problem, then the cause is most likely insufficient water circulation, dirty filter media, or insufficiently rated filter media. Try increasing pump run times, cleaning filter media, or consider upgrading to 3-Stage Activated Glass Media.
This is one of the reasons the ZeroChlor 150 Plus is our most popular system. The ZeroChlor 150 Plus System has HET-UV in addition to the technologies included on the ZeroChlor 150. Burning eyes are caused by chloramines in the water. Chloramines are rare when a pool is equipped with any ZeroChlor system. However, The HET-UV chamber destroys the chloramines in the water so the ZeroChlor Plus Systems are recommended if burning eyes are a concern.
Clean plates by immersing in acid solution until clean. Click the education link above to view a how to video on chamber cleaning and maintenance.
This only occurs when a new pool liner is installed at the same time that the pool was upgraded to the ZeroChlor Pool System. This happens because the liner has not had time to "cure" underwater. In order to cure the liner you simply turn the power to the entire ZeroChlor System off and pour one gallon of liquid bleach into the swimming pool, wait 48 hours and then power the ZeroChlor Pool System back on. The bleach content in the water will cure the liner during this 48 hours.
